The Father Prophesied Jesus
Prophecy is foretelling or predicting a future event. In the Bible, every chapter in every book gives us prophecy, or the fulfilling of a previous prophecy. Prophecy tells of future events, so that when they occur, we can be sure that God Himself had planned it beforehand. There are thousands of prophecies concerning the appearing and the ministry of Jesus the Messiah. Here is one in Isaiah 53:2-4,
“For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of parched ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.
He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.”
This simple yet bold prophecy tells us what Jesus would look like, that He would be average looking. It states that He would be frequently grieved at the condition of men’s hearts. It finishes with the redeeming work that He would do at the cross, taking our pain and sorrows upon Himself.
When people think about Jesus and His ministry, and what He should mean to us today, infrequently do we remember that God planned all this for us. He saw that we were sinful, and that there needed to be a remedy for our sin. This remedy through Jesus breaks off of us the curse, that our sin placed there. It is through Jesus that we receive the blessing instead of the curse.
So, when you talk about your salvation and belief in Jesus as the Messiah to others, tell them that He was not a surprise, nor an afterthought by God 2,000 years ago. His birth, life, death and resurrection was a planned event for 4,000 years. That is the span from the sin of Adam in the Garden to Jesus’ work at the Cross.

Father, I pray that You teach me how to witness to my family and friends, telling them that Jesus was planned by our Eternal Father, and that all prophecy must be fulfilled.
