Feeding Your Faith
Diets. The talk about diets and what to eat is at an all-time high! Their message? We become what we eat. All the science we read tells us that if we want to become healthy and live a good long life, we have to watch our diet and what we consume.
When it comes to feeding and eating, notice this one gigantic fact: we do it regularly, we do it often, we have regular habits of mealtimes. If we go too long in-between meals, we can begin to lose strength or feel faint. Your body is a substance, just like your soul is a substance, which needs feeding and proper care.
Our soul consists of; our mind, our will, and our emotions. When your mind is full of fear or worry, your will says, “let’s do this to put an end to this fear”. Then our emotions flare up and say, “What are we going to eat or drink?”. So, the nature of our makeup and design, is controlled by unseen forces. Those forces of worry, doubt, and fear can cause sweating, and high blood pressure, along with a host of other physical illnesses. Worry, doubt, and fear, are the way that natural fallen humans operate in this world. It is the default setting for this unsaved world.
At the fall of man in the garden, God placed a curse on the ground. No longer would corn just pop up for food. The land would have to be cultivated and watched over and fed. Your faith has the very same needs. If you want a crop of worry, then feed on worry and fear. If you want a crop of faith, then feed on faith and trust in God. As we read in 1 John 5:14-15,
“This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.”
We gain confidence about God the more we feed on His word. The daily diet of God and His word will determine if we are going to have a healthy, long, and productive faith life. When we know God’s will for our lives, that He wants to bring us increase and not decrease, then we develop a confidence about what we can stand in faith for, and what we can confidently pray to Him for. As a result, we know by faith that those prayers will be answered, because we know what His will is for us. Notice this comforting promise in Psalm 37:25-26,
“I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread. All day long he is gracious and lends, and his descendants are a blessing.”
What a reassuring scripture! The Word of God is full of promises to us and full of God’s heart. Do you want to know what God’s intimate thoughts are concerning you? Then feed on His Word daily!
If I was to ask you a series of questions, could you answer yes to all the following? If you cannot answer Yes confidently, then maybe you do not yet know how much God wants to bless you.
Questions:
- Is God for you? Does He have your back?
- Does God want you well? Does He want you whole, healed and healthy?
- Does God care about you? Does He want you to have His best?
- Does God answer your prayers? Are you aware when you receive answered prayer?
- Does God want to bless your house? Is God protecting your home and family?
Even if you answer yes to all these questions now, do you confidently pray for these things daily? If you ate last week, did the food keep you healthy and alive since then, or did you eat three squares a day? Regular eating is good, and a regular daily diet of the Word keeps your confidence in God high!
Our prayer for today,
Father, I like how this faith in me feels. I am empowered with Your faith power in me. I now declare that my body is whole, that I am increasing, and that Your angels are watching over me to protect me. I am not afraid of tomorrow, and I am not fearful, in Jesus’ name, amen!
