OUR 29TH YEAR OF MINISTRY

More of The Character & Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is unequaled in the power that He bestows on us.  One of those releases of power in us is to change and sweeten our behavior and personality.  These changes that occur in us is called the fruit of the Spirit.  Look at these nine fruits in Galatians 5:22-25,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

“Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

“If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.”

If we are truly filled with the Spirit of God, then these changes we ourselves and others will begin to see in us. Now, let’s look the list of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

  1. Love
  2. Joy
  3. Peace
  4. Patience
  5. Kindness
  6. Goodness
  7. Faithfulness
  8. Gentleness
  9. Self-control

No matter how you started out, God through the Holy Spirit will begin to turn you into what looks like a Christian in behavior.  I have said many times, “You don’t get good and come to God, you come to God and He makes you good”. This point is proved by these verses above. Some people know that there are character flaws in themselves, but most people have no idea how they look to others.  When the Spirit moves into your life, then He is going to change you.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”  A proof of your service in the kingdom is to have peace and be a peacemaker.

There is a point that you can resist the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Notice this declaration made in Acts 7:51, “You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.”

We read in Romans 8:14, “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Resisting the Holy Spirit can be not listening to that still small voice speaking to you, telling you to do something, or not do something. This voice you can drown out, and run away from, but eventually, the Spirit will stop changing you into a son of God.

To have the fruit of the Spirit growing in you daily means you have to surrender to the Holy Spirit, daily.

Our prayer for today;

Father, I ask that You make me sensitive to the Holy Spirit daily, that I would not resist the Holy Spirit, and that the fruit of the Spirit would come alive in my life, in Jesus’ name, amen!
