Jesus received the Holy Spirit
Jesus Himself was following the leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was baptized in the Holy Spirit when John baptized Him in the river Jordan.
“Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove…”. Luke 3:22-23.
How important should that baptism be to us? When we see our Lord and Savior, Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, immediately He followed the direction of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit to be successful in His ministry and to be properly directed by God, then how much more should the rest of humanity recognize the need and the value of the Holy Spirit’s direction in their lives.
THE DISCIPLES WERE TOLD TO WAIT FOR IT
The disciples of Jesus were told to wait for the Holy Spirit to fall on them. Today, we do not have to wait for the Holy Spirit to fall on us and fill us. He is available right away for every believer. But, at the introduction of the Holy Spirit back 2,000 years ago, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit was something that He wanted us all to have. In Acts 1:1-8,
“The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised,
“Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
So, when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them,
“It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit is available to you right now.
Our prayer for today:
Father, give me the Holy Spirit in His fullness! Stir up this gift in me at all times, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
