OUR 29TH YEAR OF MINISTRY

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of God.  God wants you to have the Holy Spirit, as you already have the Father and the Son.  Jesus said in Matthew 10:40,

Jesus commands us to receive the Holy Spirit.  In John 14:26,

Here, Jesus, refers to the Holy Spirt as a Helper.  Anytime that God declares that He is a helper to His creation, He is making a profound statement.  But to limit our understanding to just “Helper”, can diminish the reality of the power of the Holy Spirit.  The word Helper here in the Greek, is ‘parakletos’; and is also interpreted as; intercessor, counselor, advocate, consoler and comforter.  The Holy Spirit is all these things and more.

Who is He?  The Holy Spirit is God. He is part of the triune God; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  Jesus instructs His disciples in Matthew 28:19,

Jesus declares that the Holy Spirit is to be invoked over believers as part of the Godhead.  In the Genesis creation account, God refers to Himself as “Us”, capital ‘U’.  He said, “Let Us make man in our image and in Our likeness.”  This three-part construction is seen in man’s makeup and design as well. Three is a unique number found in many places in the Bible.

God is One, and He is also Three Persons.  God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit; man is spirit, soul and body.  We are one, yet we have three aspects of our being.  Solomon wrote,

“And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”  Ecclesiastes 4:12.

Three is a very important number in the Scriptures, and the number three reveals a great deal of hidden truths concerning God, heaven, and earth.

As we have discovered already, God is in three Persons, and all three Persons of the Godhead are critically important to mankind.  To reject the Holy Spirit is to reject God’s best for us.
