God the Son
Where in the Old Testament do we read that God has a Son? There are thousands of prophecies concerning Jesus written there, detailing His birth in this world and His final dominion. In Daniel for example, the vision that Daniel has is unmistakably referring to Jesus, the Son of God.
“I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him.”
“And to Him was given dominion, glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.” (Dan 7:13-14)
The Ancient of Days refers to God the Father. Not ancient as in old looking, but having an appearance of greatness, because He is the great I AM. In Daniel, Jesus is described as having the appearance as a man, which is prophetic, since He was born unto men. This vision is the final stage of Jesus’ ministry, where at the end of days, He is given the kingdom from the Father. God the Father has a Son, different in appearance from the Father, different in calling, and different in His personal description.
Jesus did not become God at His birth as a child. Rather, He was always with His Father in heaven. When we read in Psalms 2:7, written 1,000 years before He was born of Mary, we realize that He was already known by the Father.
“I will surely tell of the decree of Yahweh (the LORD): He said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.”
Notice the word “begotten”. Many believe that this term was first used by Christian writers, but not so. Used here in Psalm 2, means “to be born to”.
We frequently see or hear it in Jesus’ own discourse in John 3:16,
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
The concept of the Son of the Father has been around since the garden of Eden. Today we know Him as Jesus.
