God is Spirit, but He is spiritual materiality
John 4:24
“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
People since the beginning of creation have asked the good question, “How can I know God, since He is a Spirit?” God is made up of spirit, and outside this cosmos, there are things that are comprised of building blocks, other than the materials of dust, air, and water. We are so limited in our understanding of things outside the realm that we live in. Heaven is real, and most people cannot see it, at least not yet. Angels are spirit and they are real, and sometimes reveal themselves.
There is a spiritual realm, that is held together and operates without earthly materials of chemicals and compounds. However, everything in the spirit world is held together by the same laws of form and fashion, that our world is held together by.
That understanding helps us to understand that God is Spirit, but He has form and fashion. He is not a cloud, or a sheet blowing in the wind. He is real, He exists, and He has features like ours.
Notice this in Genesis 1:26-27,
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
God made us in His image. Even though He is spirit and we are flesh, we were made in the likeness of God. In other words, we resemble His pattern of design.
