OUR 29TH YEAR OF MINISTRY

The Father’s Name

Probably the most unique discovery that I have made from studying the scriptures, is that there are many traditions to interpreting the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into English.  The foremost tradition of interpretation is interpreting God the Father’s name from Hebrew into English.

Jesus said in the prayer of the Our Father,

To hallow His name is to show it honor, and to give special significance to it.  Jesus literally spoke His name, as did other Jews in Jesus’ day.  But, 2000 years of traditions have concealed His name since that time.  There are many reasons for this, and if you want the whole story on it, click this link to watch my video on the subject.

His name was revealed to Moses at the burning bush.  God spoke to Moses and said in Exodus 3:14

“God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”

God has a particular way of naming people, and He named Himself in the same manner.  His name means, I EXIST THAT I EXIST, literally, I BE THAT I BE.  How else could you describe God who IS, WAS and Ever shall Be?  His name reveals His character and nature.  He will always be what He IS.  God will never change or diminish.

The word in the Hebrew for His name is YHVH, pronounced Yahweh.  The concept of changing His name to LORD occurred between 30 AD to 135 AD, which I term as “a convention”.  The word Lord is a title, not a name. His name describes Him, His title, Lord, shows His authority.

Jesus wants us to give honor, reverence and respect to His Father’s name.  How can we do that if we do not know His name?

God the Father’s name, properly pronounced, is Yahweh.  For now, you can begin to address the Father, using whatever name or title that you are most comfortable using.  You can use, God, Father, Lord, or Yahweh.  Much more on this in later weeks.
