YOU NEED THE HOLY SPIRIT

Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised,

Acts 1:4-5

When was the last time that you considered this statement of two baptisms? John introduced the water baptism of repentance, Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit baptism of power and fire.

Do we still need two baptisms today, 2,000 years later?

The act of baptism was not a new idea in the days of Jesus’ ministry. Once the Israelites left Egypt under Moses, Yahweh God directed Moses to consecrate/make holy (kadosh in Hebrew), Aaron and his sons for service in the priesthood with water.  Exodus 29:1-7 says in part, “wash them with water”, as part of the purification process.  It’s understood that it was a washing head to toe, not just a brief immersion. This first part of making ourselves right with God today is called water baptism.  Notice this; water is what defines what type of baptism it is.

They were then instructed for a second stage of the preparations to minister before Yahweh (the LORD). “Then you shall take the anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him.”  This anointing oil was exceedingly special. Exodus 30:23-25 explains how this anointing oil was made.

“Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, two hundred and fifty, and of fragrant cane two hundred and fifty, and of cassia five hundred, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a hin. You shall make of these a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture, the work of a perfumer; it shall be a holy anointing oil.”

Much of what we see as an act of consecration for serving God in the Old Testament, is a shadow and type of what was to come.  This second baptism of Aaron and the priests was 1.) an anointing 2.) from above, 3.) starting on the head and flowing down to his beard and clothing, 4.) making him and the priests fragrant.

This second act of anointing is what the Holy Spirit baptism is today. He anoints you with His power, He comes from above, He baptizes you head to toe, and He gives you a special attraction that makes you fragrant to the world.  Oil has always been a symbol of the anointing. 1 John 2:20 clearly states the Holy Spirit anointing,

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.” NASB

“But you have received the Messiah’s anointing from HaKadosh, and you know all this.” CJB

The Holy Spirit brings a holy anointing that is one of power.  Many have been taught that you get the Holy Spirit when you get saved, but the words of Jesus and the experiences in the book of Acts, clearly states otherwise.

Still yet many days before the day of Pentecost, Jesus in John 20:22 “breathed on them and said to them,

What happened?  Nothing that we can tell.  The city did not turn out, thousands were not saved, and they did not speak in tongues and prophesy.  Why?  This event was just for them to continue faithfully waiting as it is recorded in Acts 1:4, “Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised…”

The event where He breathed on them, and the event where He gathered them together, are one in the same timeline events. Jesus told them to wait for the full measure of the Holy Spirit that was coming shortly.  The first baptism in Christianity is with water, a symbol of purification from our sins.  The second baptism is in the anointing of the Holy Spirit, an anointing of power and fire.

Starting from Pentecost and forward, any time that the Holy Spirit fell on anyone, they spoke in tongues and prophesied.  This is how the Jewish disciples knew for certain that the Gospel was for the Gentiles too.

But, it’s easy to forget your initial anointing and let it fall by the wayside in your daily life.  This is why Paul wrote to Timothy saying, “That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination].” 2 Timothy 1:6, AMP

I challenge you right now to stop and begin to speak, pray or sing in other tongues.  Start your journey now!

If you want to receive the Holy Spirit baptism, Jesus said in Luke 11:11-13,

You can ask the Holy Spirit to come upon you right now and anoint you with His power! Jesus said so.

Ask the Holy Spirit to come upon you right now!  Pray this prayer with me.

“Dear Father in heaven, Your Son Jesus declared that I could ask to be anointed with the Holy Spirit.  And, that He, the Holy Spirit, would come upon me as a gift.  Father, I ask for the baptism of the Holy Spirit right now, in Jesus’ name, amen!”

Expect the anointing to begin to live in you.

Please continue to support this ministry in the construction improvements and the new stations we are contracting with.  Your continued support will make a difference in the kingdom, bringing in new souls and training up the saints.
